Minrikea is a small kingdom in South Eastern Airda Minor. Theses lands were part of the Eternal Empire before the Cataclysm, but in the years following the apocalyptic event the human slaves in the region rose up and slaughtered their elf overlords. rather than forming one nation, the humans splintered into rival factions and for over a thousand years petty kingdoms rose and fell. The fierce warriors of the neighboring Ilmycrans kept the worst of the invading goblins, orcs, and giants at bay, but the small kingdoms were still always under intense pressure just to survive. In this environment, dark magics flourished. Necromancy, demon binding, curses, blood magic, and human sacrifice were commonplace, and the witches and warlocks of Minrikea are still prominent in their culture and folklore.
Explorers and Traders from Airda Major began contacting the northern kingdoms in the late 10th century AC. This rapidly evolved into colonial expansion as the Southern Empires raced to snatch up coastal land from the comparatively weak native populations. After two of the small coastal kingdoms fell to the Tel Vani and the Nasuta Shogunate, the remaining native human kingdoms united under an elected High King. This tradition has continued with the various regional nobles still holding the title of King, but acknowledging one of their number as supreme. This process is never entirely stable and leads to frequent civil wars and blood feuds. The constant bickering usually leaves Minrekea off of the global stage, but it has been sufficient to stop further colonial expansion.
